geekspeakr.com: Women who speak on technical topics

Brenda Wallace of LinuxChix NZ has founded geekspeakr.com, a global website where women who can speak on technical topics (not limited to Linux or Free Software) can list themselves, to assist conference organisers in finding women to speak at their conferences

If you are willing to give talks on technical subjects, create a profile at geekspeakr.com.

Girl Geek Dinners in New Zealand

New Zealand Girl Geek Dinners started in Auckland in November 2007 as an offshoot of the London Girl Geek Dinners.  We now have a group started in Wellington and coming soon, a group in Christchurch.

The aim of these get-togethers is to provide a welcoming atmosphere and a platform for learning in an informal environment, to make technology accessible and to be of interest to all age groups and all people, particularly women, whatever their background.  It is an opportunity for like-minded 'girls' to talk about technology over food and drinks.

Linuxchix Adds New News Category

The excellent volunteers who maintain the Linuxchix website have added a new section, "What Linuxchix Are Doing." This is for interesting and useful activities by Linuxchix members that are not directly related to Linuxchix; for example, events in Debian-Women and Ubuntu-Women, conferences, jobs ("Foochixx0r was hired by Boggle as Open Source Maven!"), community volunteer activities, startups- the possibilities are legion.
